My 9-year-old brother and his friend are playing chess in my front yard.

I love my family.

Ouch.

Getting Back Into Shape: Day 1

Sharpest side splints ever-- sweltering heat-- aching legs-- lightning-quick pulse-- tomato-red face-- pounding heart-- huffing-- puffing-- unable to complete sentences-- aching legs-- repetitiousness--
Yep, that's day one alright.

On the bright side, there were some very pretty white trees blooming in the fields. Although I can't say what kind. On the other bright side... wait, there is no other.

Spring

"The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month." -Henry Van Dyke

...I'm still waiting for that first spring day.

Yay - 1st day getting back in the grind tomorrow. I have to do school tomorrow. Yipee.

WARNING: the previous statement contains explosive amounts of sarcasm.

My little Fred is in a happier place now. We'll always love you, Fred.

*Yes, Fred is a fish. He died after 3 years with me. Just because he's a fish, doesn't mean I can't love him. Maybe I'm a little pathetic, but stop laughing.

Bye forever, Fred.

Good ol' break of the Spring kind

Yeah, so I haven't been great about posting often. But I have maintained living a real life, instead of blogging about one, which is good. So you should be proud of me.

Anyway, the man who invented the idea of Spring break is/was a genius, because it is sheer geniusness.

Mine's been lovely; full of volleyball, soccer practices, Spring cleaning (which may not seem lovely to some, but it is for me), catching up with dear friends and watching silly movies and having an all-around good time, and... drum roll please - doing absolutely no school at all!

Ah, this is the life.

Birthday, birthday, birthday, hey!

Ah, a birthday. The sweet smell of cake which often accompanies ice cream, brightly-colored wrapped presents, good food, the sight of great (sometimes silly) friends, bright streamers, balloons hanging from walls and mailboxes, and lots of fun. It never gets old, right?

Actually, it can.

Within seven days, I had fun times five. That means cake and icing times five.
1. Saturday was Jon-Jon's 9th birthday! Our little baby's not so little anymore. He and his crazy friends played at the bowling alley to celebrate.

2. Monday was Colleen's surprise 16th birthday party!

3. Tuesday was Leigh's surprise 16th birthday party, which is apparently the way to do it.

4. Thursday was Catherine's birthday! Lots of Spartans got together to celebrate...and I ate more cake.
{Cat loves her pink cake}
5. Friday: Danielle's slumber party. More Spartan girls + fun + games + knitting + virtually no sleep. It was great! Except for the no sleep part...I'm still catching up.

No more cake, please.

Sunny with the high of '75

Spring.
Warm weather.
Picnics.
Bike rides.
Doing homework on a blanket in the lovely shade. (Homework stinks. A beautiful day outside, however, does not.)
Sunshine.

Oh yes.

Phones see me and die.

My last one crashed on me. "Crashed", as in, the screen went black never to return or show its face. I miss its lovely face. Well, life goes on. So I ordered its replacement. But it will never replace Lovely Face or be better than LF, it can only take her place and be useful in her absence.

Actually, it won't.

My new one just died, too. My new one. Brand new, as in, just got the package today, just opened it. Brand-spankin' new! It doesn't get newer than that.

I give up.

Thank goodness for old-Motorola-20-pounders. It's Dad's old phone, since he moved up in the cellular device world this month. He upgraded to an iPhone. Hmm, I bet if I had just ordered an iPhone it would still be very much alive. Anyone got $200 lying around?
